Anyone can take part in Live Below the Line. The official challenge is over but we're still doing it now and so could you.
You can do this challenge to raise money, raise awareness or just to have a direct experience of the 1.4 billion people currently living in extreme poverty. By simply seeing what it's like to feed yourself or your family with £1 a day you'll get a small insight into the challenge millions of people face everyday of their lives.
Some steps to help you Live Below the Line...
First-Decide whether you'd like to take this challenge to raise money, awareness or to have your own personal experience, or all three like we are.
Second-Are you doing it alone or with family and friends? Ask people to join in with the challenge.
Third-Decide on your rules. How long are you doing the challenge for-three days, one week, a fortnight? Are you pooling money like us? There are some rules that shouldn't be changed, you have to spend no more than £1 a day on food and you should still be eating three meals a day. But how long you do it for, whether or not you buy your food in bulk whilst still sticking to your budget and whether or not you raise money, are up to you.
Fourth-If you are planning to raise some money for charity choose who you'd like to raise money for and set up a charity fundraising page. This is a quick and simple thing to do and it won't cost you a penny. Shop around for the best sites though because some will take a small percentage of each donation and you might want to find the site that takes the least. We are using Virgin Money Giving which takes 2% of each donation compared to JustGiving which takes 5%.
Fifth-If you would like to raise awareness of extreme poverty you can do this by telling friends and family about what you are doing and why. Maybe you could design and print off some flyers to hand out. Don't forget to tell people at work and even people you talk to in the supermarket when you go and buy your food, or take leaflets to your children's school. You can use the useful links page on this blog to help find out some information about Live Below the Line or extreme poverty.
Sixth-Decide when you're going to do it and do it!
Good Luck with your own challenge.
